Lines of snow outline the rows of a winter wheat field, creating a tranquil contrast against the muted tones of the landscape.

The undulating hills of this farm in the Oak Ridges moraine have always captivated me. Inspired, I set out to photograph this spot on an early November morning not knowing what to expect. Before daybreak, I braved the biting chill, my fingers numb as I set up my tripod, eager to witness the transformation of darkness into dawn. As the sky gradually brightened during the blue hour, I was finally able to focus on the dimly lit landscape using a slow exposure to accentuate the blues and greens that intertwined within the scene.

The abstract results were a pleasant surprise, further igniting my appreciation for this agricultural tapestry.

I am continually amazed at how winter’s slumber rejuvenates the fall wheat, eventually yielding a golden crop that radiates life come summer.
