Winter Lighthouse Jackson Point

As the new year settled in, winter loosened its grip just long enough for a short January thaw. I seized the moment, camera in hand, and wandered the quiet shores of Lake Simcoe. The air was mild, the lake quiet, and the landscape softened by melting ice. I eventually reached the Jacksons Point Lighthouse, standing quietly against a serene, icy lake.

A thin layer of meltwater had formed over the ice, creating a perfect mirror. The overcast sky added a gentle mood, while the docks—weathered and still—framed the scene with quiet character. It was a peaceful moment, perfectly timed, and deeply rewarding to capture. The lighthouse, the muted sky, and the soft winter light all came together in a calm reflection that completed the composition.

Moments like this are why I love photographing Ontario’s landscapes—unexpected, peaceful, and full of subtle beauty.
