Winter Cascade Rivière-du-Loup Waterfalls
Ribbons of water, frozen in motion.
The roar of Quebec Rivière-du-Loup’s winter cascade collide with the hush of ice-etched stone.
The cascade was roaring, the ice was whispering, and the last light of winter brushed the treetops for only a moment. I happened to be there with camera ready before the sun slipped away.
Nature doesn't wait. You either chase the moment or miss it.
The waterfall of the Loup River is certainly one of the most iconic features of the city. The waterfall is 33 metres tall and a source of inspiration and awe for tourists and locals who walk by it from the footbridge or admire it from below its bubbling waters that spill out in a deafening roar. Thanks to the dam at the top of the falls, Riviere-du-Loup was one of the first towns in the Bas-St-Laurent region to produce electricity in 1928, which was an important economic activity at the time.
