The Holland Marsh
Day’s End
Growing season in the Holland Marsh means long days cultivating crops. From planting, cultivating, weeding to harvest, the fields are worked from sunrise to sundown. I was surprised by the sound of the tractor leaving the field and swung my camera up to snap this photo. The swirling dust of the marsh soil is highlighted by the setting sun of heading home. A perfect metaphor for a day’s end.
I have photographed the Holland Marsh many times as a backdrop to the agriculture activities in the area. This image celebrates not only the bounty of the land but also the labor, knowledge, and community that sustain it.
