Nature’s Camera Work

Nature never sleeps, but when winter slows the world, the quiet starts to speak. Frozen in time, Nature makes its own camera work.  This fleeting harmony of land, light, and weather.

As a photographer, watching the weather and getting outside has its rewards. Enjoying nature on a winter day. Snow outlines the landscape and guides your thoughts through the quiet— a moment where the world slows just enough to breathe. These are the moments I chase to photograph, when the landscape speaks, and I’m lucky enough to listen.

Ice Day at Lake Simcoe ❄️🧡

During a brief winter thaw, I headed out to Ontario’s Lake Simcoe, drawn by the quiet drama of winter light and frozen water. The vivid orange life ring against the icy blues of Lake Simcoe made this composition irresistible — a bold pop of safety and contrast in a frozen world.

Jackson Point Lighthouse

A quiet winter thaw at Jacksons Point Lighthouse. Soft light, calm reflections, and a moment worth pausing for.

Was it worth the trip? I think so.
Sometimes the best shots come when you lean into the cold and follow your instincts.

The thrill of winter photography comes with —one I hadn’t planned to find. Exploring a river gorge I came to cascading ice etched the cliffside - like a memory held in place for just a little longer. A quiet moment, frozen in time, soon to melt into spring. But for this brief stillness, the land whispered, and I was there to hear it. I was particularly pleased with the splash of light from the setting sun- brushing the rim of rock and trees.
